The Epitome of True NecroBlackDeath Metal played in the vein of the Old Ones
New Jersey's Engorge originally comprised of Disciples
of Mockery, and Nebula 666 members in 1995. Nebula 666
being a trio of Kyle Powell on vocals/drums ala
Autopsy, original Fragmentation bass player Urthon and
Doug Maxwell (NJ'S Suffer) on guitar. The origins of
the band, lay in vocalist Kyle Powell's early nineties
act Fragmentation, an extreme metal act founded whilst
Powell was serving in the USAF, at March Air Force
Base in southern California. Beginning life in
Fragmentation, a trio of Aluukard, on vocals, Urthon
on bass, and Fej on both guitars and drums, released a
1993 EP 'Prelude to Evil', and a 1994 full length
album 'Black Death' through Powell's own label
Eviserated Records. The original Engorge band unit was
created in 1996, comprised of vocalist Kyle Powell,
guitarist Mike Boyce of Disciples of Mockery and
Faust, bassist Ronnie Deo of Incantation, Disciples of
Mockery and Womb, and ex-Faust drummer Bill Vessey.
The band announced their arrival in low key fashion
with a demo session "The Winter of Pathological
Hate",restricted to a mere 20 copies. The band went
through a complete overhaul during 1996 thru 1999.
Powell being joined in his endevor by guitarist Matt
Troost, bassist John Tobin, and drummer Douglas
Maxwell. The quartet issued the six tracks 'Grave
Desecration',before Maxwell decamped, later to join
Suffer the following year. Tobin shifted over to
occupy the drum stool, whilst Bart Traylor of New
Jersey's Sanginary, took over the bass postion. After
a further demo, "Enchanted by the Battles of Azazel",
Engorge issued an extremely rare album,"Within the
Realms of Blasphemous Fornification", was pressed in
only 100 copies. By this juncture, bass was in the
hands of Mitch Coken, a veteran of New York's
"Head-Trauma".
Yet again within a space of a year, the Engorge lineup
shifted with Troost and Tobin losing their postions.
The pair would end up in 'Diegrinded Leftovers'. Left
alongside Powell was Coken a returning Mike Boyce,Gian
Davila (ex-Necrosis of Equador) and guitarist Anthony
Prieto of (NYC's) 'Abysmal Malevolence/Apotheosis,
cutting the demo cassette 'Blood...Urine...Semen...The
Order of Defilement'. Engorge would not enjoy
stability for long. Boyce decamped again. Powell,
Coken and Davila welcomed aboard guitarists Omar
Davila and Josef Magnus. This version of Engorge minus
Magnus, released the mini album, "Necroinsemination"
in 2001. By 2002 Engorge had been whittled down to a
trio of Powell and the Davila brothers, cutting the
album, "Dead...Fuck...Blackness", on Dark Horizon
Records. Lord Typhus Mirinor had been impressed with
'Necroinsemination', promo and signed the band shortly
thereafter. Guitarist Mike Boyce (as Demonian) would
wind up lead vocalist for a local NJ band and later
guitarist for 'Life Deceiver', although Engorge
continued to use songs written by Boyce and Powell in
1996.
During 2002,Coken was released from the band due to
musical differences and Engorge drafted (Mortician,
Head-Trauma, Malignancy) veteran Desmond Tolhurst into
the ranks of new bass player and set about writing a
fresh new EP called, "Cold Black Ejaculation" EP and
later the "Ravenous Horde of Darkened Gods" CD, for a
late 2003/2004 issue, both on Dark Horizon Records.
Powell (now known as KEP) also operated as vocalist
and drummer programmer for the black metal cult, "Dark
Autumn Hymns" in league with, Cythraal of
(ex)-Abazagorath. This side venture issued a demo
cassette, "I am the Horned King" limited to just 50
copies in 1996. This demo would be slated for a CD
re-issue in November 2002. Powell also has a adjunct
to his career being session drummer for NY's Mortician
from 98-99 .
Omar Davila amicably parted ways with the band in
September 2002. Stepping in as substitute would be
Dalkiel of the Dark Vinlandic black metal act, Algol.
He would join up debuting with the band alongside
Davila at a record release party on Aug.3, 2002. It
would be Davila's last show. Engorge would then engage
in laying down the material for the album "Ravenous
Horde of Darkened Gods". In October 2002 longtime
drummer Gian Davila bowed out, being replaced by
ex-"Garden of Shadows" skinsman Brett O'Conner for one
show and later by Jim Roe (ex-Incantation,Disciples of
Mockery,Womb) although Davila would remain as session
member throughout his absence. The band is currently
occupied by KEP/ vocals, Ronny Deo/guitar/bass, Jim
Roe/drums and Mitch Coken/ session bass once again.
The horde constantly changes to fit it's mood, and the
future will be more hellish and uncertain as Evil
itself. Stay tuned...

Hi,
Hailz and Happy New Year, Engorge! How are you and
what's in store for the band in 2006?
Well, so far we are planning an appearance at this
years Death In The Forest Festival in Middletown, NY.
We will also be recording a new album next month...in
addition to maybe entertaining some european tour
offers.
Your last album, Dead... Fuck... Blackness, is a
long ass album with 18 tracks, which is great! How
have fans and the media been responding to your
> latest masterpiece?
Cold Black Ejaculation is short and to the
point...like a razor to the jugular. The response has
been awesome and the album is sold out and will be
repressed this year. Fans like our live performances
best. The media cowers from Engorge...they are of no
consequence.
How do you write your music and how do you get the
inspiration for your writing?
Inspiration comes from the sexual spiritual void in
addition the everyday horrors of life and the struggle
between darkness and light. Everyone in Engorge
contributes to song writing. We hash out ideas and
mesh them altogether once we are all on the same page.
How do your CD covers and the musical and lyrical
content of your CDs relate?
The art, imagery and lyrics are all entertwined in
Engorge. If you look at the images and read the lyrics
you will find that its all one big story or nightmare,
depending on your point of view.
Sex,death,enlightenment,anger,loathing,might,wisdom
and malice...all gel like blood and semen.
Engorge actually played in El Paso, Texas this
past July. How did your tour turn out and were you
satisfied with the turn out of the crowd?
The turnout in El Paso was questionable at best. The
die hards came out. Im told that part of texas is kind
of tricky. We shed blood for those who came
nonetheless.
How do you feel about playing live?
Ritual. Playing live is Ritual. Many would say its
tedious and presumptuous to play for a mass. As a true
misanthrope , I find it therapeutic. A necessary
evil...in order to satiate my cravings for
violence,blood and lust.
Are their any particularly memorable times you
have from any of your tours?
Seeing the various parts of America is quite
inspiring. Meeting the fans, sharing the rage, feeding
the demons. We have had lots of crazy things happen on
tour. From car fires,to knife fights, to home cooked
meals by fans...its all happened.
Have you gotten any gifts from fans? Which would
you say would be the coolest or weirdest?
Nothing really weird per se...I did get a human skull
from a fan some 5 years ago. Ha! That was quite
memorable. Coolest? Ummmm...I got a dagger from a fan
when we played Rhode Island a few years ago. It was
stained.
Will 2006 see new shows and tours with Engorge?
Most definately. There are those individuals whom use
to be in my circle of friends that would love to see
me and Engorge fall...but all the stars will burn out
before that happens. We will do various festivals
around the US this summer/fall of 2006 and the winter
will find us in europe.
How is the music and being Engorge connected with
the person you are?
Ive said this before, that Engorge is an extension of
my penis. Do the math.
How do you see yourself as a role model to many
young people who listen to and who get into your
music?
Im no role model. Im am the poisoner, but with a
purpose. Perserverance,hard work,diligence and
knowledge will get you all you seek in life. Keep
those things at the front of your brain and there will
be nothing you cant conquer in this world or the next.
Have you seen a change in the metal scene since
you started playing? Has the audience changed?
The MTV generation has a good foothold on the music
scene nowadays. There are only a few true warriors
left in this world of extreme metal. The metal scene
has become more incestuous, perilous and petty to say
the least.
Do you feel that Death and Black Metal bands have
it more difficult to gain recognition compared to
those who play other types of metal?
Definately...unless that death/black metal band
happens to be one of those that sucks the balls of
magazine editors,record labels,booking agents etc.
They know who they are. There is only a handful of
black/death metal bands in the underground that have
retained any recognition due to sheer hard work. The
ball lickers and taint soothers of the usbm/usdm scene
will only get so far before they are rendered obsolete
and forgotten.
How do you compare the Death and Black metal scene
here in the States and in Europe?
There is no comparison. They are two very different
animals.
Which bands are on your list of favorites? If I
were to look through your CD collection, what would
I find?
Hehehehe...you would find just about every extreme
metal release since the birth of Venom...but if I must
name a few, Celtic
Frost,Bathory,Obituary,Death,Darkthrone,Napalm
Death,NME,Blasphemy,Gwar,Xasthur,Ashdautas,Typhus,Profanatica,Destruction,Marduk,The
Doors,Led Zeppelin and Engorge.
What other types of music do you listen to?
Im have eccletic tastes which extend outward to
various styles of jazz,classical,ambient,classic
rock,60's rock, electronic and new wave. Frank Sinatra
and the whole big band sound have had vast influences
over me.
Outside of playing Metal, what kinds of things do
you enjoy doing?
I enjoy hunting wild game,cooking
outdoors,biking,working out,spending time with family
and friends and working.
What kind of books do you read? Any good books or
movies you would like to mention?
Hmmmm...Dantes Inferno, all works by Tom Clancy and
various reads on physical power,Ancient Gods and
numerous reads about the future.
I had read an article once on anus.com about
boycotting Christian metal. What are your feelings
about that? What does "Metal" actually mean to you?
Christian metal is like saying jumbo shrimp or saying
Gene Simmons and cherry in the same sentence. It just
doesnt belong. Metal is to be
dangerous,lecherous,cantankerous,crisp,empowering,volatile
and used for release. No agenda, political or otherwise
is to be added to that mix.
During a show featuring death and black metal
bands, one fan approached me to let me know that he
no longer finds Black metal acceptable because the
satanic content most albums have. As an atheist he
sees this as a form of religion. What's your take on
this?
Satanism is to catholicism as kethup is to french
fries. He may have been right in his own way. Im not
atheist, Im Pagan. I have no real views other than
climbing the rungs until you run out...self
worship,protecting my family,crushing my enemies.
What's in store for Engorge? What can the metal
scene expect within the next couple of years?
We plan to slice the jugulars of our detractors and
watch them bleed as we eat their flesh and drink the
mead of knowledge. Ive made it a point that I will
face and destroy anyone or anything that has EVER
tried to derail me or Engorge.
What holds your band together?
Me and my Demons.
What advice would you give to young bands and
musicians?
Keep going no matter what. You will know when it is
time to stop.
Any last words to fans or anything you would like
to add?
I want to thank all the fans that have supported us
these last 12 years. We will all gather in the Abyss
and live eternally. To my enemies, a big
hot, gelatinous blast of black cum down your
throats...fester,writhe,coagulate and die. Your time
is coming.
WORLD WITHOUT END...666
